Rhoda Adlerstein

Rhoda Adlerstein died peacefully at home in Aventura, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday morning, after a brave year-long struggle with cancer.
Daughter of Menachem Mendel and Hesha Feldman, she was born March 2, 1928 in Montreal, Canada. She graduated from Commercial High School, and later attended Sir George Williams College and The Ohio State University.
She married Hersh L. Adlerstein on J une 1, 1949. She became active in Jewish community life, in Buffalo, NY, Columbus, OH and for the past 21 years in South Florida. She was a member of Temple Sinai, where she sang in the choir. She also worked at JC Penney, and volunteered with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Rhoda is survived by her husband, three daughters, Deena (Robert) Weiss-Dennis, of North Miami Beach; Naomi (Gregory) Siegler, of North Miami; and Judith Adlerstein, of New York City; one son, David Adlerstein, of Apalachicola; grandchildren Saroj and Maxwell Siegler, and Jennifer Dennis; sisters-in-law Miriam Adlerstein and Riva Weiss, of Boston, MA, and Ida Feldman, of Toronto, Canada; brother-in-law Alexander Janow, of Aventura; and nieces and nephews Rosalee, Marsha, Lois, Lori, Alan and Julie.
Preceding her in death were sisters, Dolly Janow and Bessie Goretsky, and brother Morris Feldman.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Temple Sinai in North Miami Beach, with Rabbi David Young officiating. Burial followed at Lakeside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, 200 South Park Road, Suite 100, Hollywood, FL 33021.
